The feared Blood Elf in orcish lore
Ash (Asheria) was a monk who served at an elfin temple. Being an orphan, the temple was all she knew and had everyone she ever loved. She trained her body not to attack, but to defend those she cared for. Unfortunately, seventeen years ago, an army of orcs swept through the southern elfin lands, decimating nearly the entire elfin population in the forest. Ash tried desperately to defend the temple with her fellows but, after taking two arrows in the back and a spear in the side, fell with the rest of them. She was the only survivor of the temple and was nursed back to health over the next two years by some of the survivors from the clan. Her body recovered, but her spirit never did. Ash marked her face with some of the saved ashes from the temple bearing both burned debris and bodies in it. She swore revenge on the orcs and set out to seek it. The army that had destroyed her home had been defeated and disbanded months after the destruction in the forest so Ash spent her time tearing about whatever orcs she could find. She spent so much time killing and maiming that there is a legend among the orcs that speak of the frightening “Blood Elf” that bathes in their blood. Since the incident seventeen years ago, Ash has only had three emotions, ambivalent, irritated and furious. She is had to get along with but easy to travel with as she only causes trouble if someone gets in her way. Ash met Yzvril one day three years ago when she was about to ambush a small group of orcs. Just before she was going to attack, fireballs arced through the air and a sorceress came into view, annihilating the group. Ash stormed in as Yzvril was looming over the leader, about to drain his life. Yzvril saw her and noted her demeanor and intentions and simply offered the kill to her. Ash gladly took it, crushing the orc’s head with a single punch. Ash’s hatred for orcs completely overwhelmed any distrust or hatred she should’ve had for the drow, so when Yzvril pried into her past, Ash told her the events that led up to her being the way she was. In the end, they struck a deal, Ash would offer her services if Yzvril ever needed it and, in exchange, Yzvril and her new family would destroy any orcs they came across. To date, Yzvril’s promise has resulted in more than 500 dead orcs and a pleased Ash. Ash has very little loyalty to Yzvril, however, the relationship has so far been a good one for her. She has almost never refused a job from the drow as Yzvril has only given her missions where numerous orc deaths are a near certainty. Ash is reckless and a more than a little wild and her disheveled appearance doesn’t help. Ash will often end up in the middle of the fray, taking full damage and giving it right back.
